SAKOR dynamometer









The new line of SAKOR motor testing dynamometers offers high-accuracy testing for designers and manufacturers of electric motors of any size, for use in applications ranging from large industrial equipment to consumer appliances, including fans, refrigerators, and washing machines. They have been optimized so that individual machines can test the widest possible range of motor sizes and still maintain necessary accuracy tolerances. SAKOR systems meet the standards’ tight tolerances and exacting requirements regarding data precision and accuracy. Capable of precisely measuring motor efficiency, these dynamometers provide an essential tool to engineers seeking to reduce fossil fuel consumption and enhance energy efficiency to meet strict environmental standards and regulations.


Typhoon HIL Microgid Testbed

Tyhphoon HIL Microgrid Testbed is collection of HIL devices with integrated protection relays, microgrid controllers and diesel gensets. The main purpose of the Microgrid Testbed is to comprehensively test controller’s hardware, firmware, software and communications under all operating conditions including faults in both the islanded and grid-connected mode. Moreover, Microgrid Testbed can perform all its tests and generate its test reports also in the fully automatic mode, thus boosting the productivity and improving test coverage even further. The features of the Microgrid HIL testbed at PEMSES center are:

Real Time Digital Simulator

RTDS is a robust real-time simulation equipment. It can mimic the actual characteristics of a microgrid or power system. It can be interfaced to external controllers for testing. The capabilities of the RTDS at PEMSES center are:
Capacity – 75 buses
Timestep – 50µs (1-4 µs to simulate fast switching device)
I/Os – 64(digital), 12(analog)
Ethernet protocols – TCP/UDP (Socket) protocol and DNP





Grid Simulator

Gird simulator emulates the real grid and it is used for testing the 4 quadrant operation of a converter at variable frequency. The capabilities of the grid simulator at PEMSES center are:

Frequency range – 30-100Hz
Operation – 4-quadrant
Interface – GPIB, USB, RS232 and Ethernet protocol






dSPACE is a rapid controller prototyping tool and it provides a real-time interface between the Simulink model and the converter. PEMSES contains the dSPACE with the following capabilities:

Typhoon HIL 600

Typhoon HIL is useful for real-time Hardware-In-Loop testing. The operation of a controller for a converter can be tested in real-time simulation using Typhoon HIL unit before deploying it for an actual converter. The Typhoon HIL unit present in our lab has the following capabilities:

SiC Converters

This compact SiC MOSFET based converter can be used in various applications like grid tied converter, electric machine drives and for testing EV drives. The salient features of the converter are:

FPGA Board

Altera MAX II family FPGA controller board designed and developed in PEMSES, UH. It can be used for implementing closed loop feedback control system and generating gate pulses for power converter. Key features of this board are:

Thermal Chamber

Thermal chamber in PEMSES center is used for high temperature testing of the gate driver and converters. The thermal chamber testing capabilities are:
